Alana
Senior Midwife / Registered nurse
Alana (rhymes with goanna) is a registered midwife and nurse with over 25 years experience in high-risk obstetrics, antenatal care, antenatal education and perinatal mental health. She demonstrates a keen interest and obvious passion for her profession.
Early in her nursing career Alana found herself drawn to midwifery. Ten years of general medical nursing and the birth of her two sons gave her a great personal and professional perspective into birthing and medical conditions that might influence pregnancies.
In 1996 Alana was able to embark on her midwifery career so she could share her passion of supporting women and their families through their pregnancy, birth and early parenting. She completed her midwifery training at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Hobart and received the Staff nominated Award for Most Consistent Professional Practice for her year. Following this she returned to the North West Coast with the priority to complete her family, and was soon after to have her daughter.
Alana and her daughter relocated to Hobart in 2015, and in addition to her role as Senior Midwife at Eternal Women’s Health, Alana is employed at Hobart Private Hospital. Alana is passionate about the education of parents-to-be and has eagerly facilitated antenatal and breast-feeding classes for more than 15 years. She currently runs our Caesarean Section Class, and is renowned for making it an enjoyable evening.
When she isn’t working, Alana enjoys socialising, sunshine, family holidays and laughter at every opportunity!
Jordan
Midwife / Registered nurse
Jordan attained her nursing degree in 2014, graduating from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Nursing. She subsequently moved to Melbourne to undertake her graduate year but didn’t enjoy the hustle and bustle of the big city. Jordan returned to her family and friends in Tassie, for which we are so thankful!
Upon returning to Hobart, Jordan completed her midwifery training with University of Southern Queensland, and found her professional passion in life. Jordan joined us at Eternal Women’s Health in November 2020, and also works regularly at Hobart Private Hospital.
In her spare time, Jordan enjoys bushwalking, going to the beach and spending time with her two dogs, Honey and Luna.
Barb
Midwife / Registered nurse
Barb has over 50 years of experience in healthcare, completing her general nursing training in regional Victoria in 1971. Following her training, she worked as a bush nurse but was encouraged to do midwifery when she couldn’t be kept away from the new mums and babies! Barb completed her midwifery training in Melbourne and fostered her interest in newborn care, securing a position with the NETS (Newborn Emergency Transport Service) team. A stint at the Royal Children’s Hospital NNICU followed before Barb moved back to Bendigo for more time on the maternity ward.
On returning to Tassie, Barb worked at the North West Regional Hospital, before moving back to Hobart and becoming an important team member at Hobart Private Hospital. Barb routinely works with premature or sick babies in the special care nursery at HPH, and has a special interest in neonatal and postnatal care.
When Barb isn’t working she loves looking after her 4 grandchildren, 2 girls and 2 boys! She loves traveling and hopes to make the most of opportunities to do more of this in coming years.
